FEBRUARY MONTHLY REPORT
by Edie Surprenant

FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS

KRMA will begin a dewatering process for the sludge disposal next month. This process will dewater the sludge and turn it into a cake substance that can be stored and later land applied when weather permits. This process in addition to the land application of the liquid sludge will allow KRMA to manage the sludge disposal process in a more efficient manner.

Also, at this time, Generator #1 is under a major overhaul. Charles Equipment has removed the generator to take it back to their shop to complete the overhaul process. Charles Equipment will be rebuilding the engine to manufacturer’s specifications and current product upgrades.

The Clean Energy Community Foundation (in coordination with ComEd) has reviewed KRMA’s request for a grant to improve the process energy efficiency at the facility. One area of focus is to implement a control device for the D.O. (Dissolved Oxygen) probes which would control the output of the blowers which in turn would save energy. The total preliminary estimate for this project is approximately $353,000. KRMA has been requested to submit a proposal for a grant of up to $161,500. The grant is intended to pay up to one half of the expense and KRMA would pay the remaining amount.

During February, operations and maintenance staff completed 273 scheduled /preventative maintenance work orders and 106 repair orders. At the end of February there were 159 open work orders. There are approximately 127 open work orders at this time.

SAFETY

The Safety Team met on February 27, 2007, to review the safety concerns at KRMA.
The Safety Team will be implementing a revised safety incentive program during March. This safety incentive program will encourage KRMA staff members to do additional safety activities for which they will earn points. Once a staff member has reached a designated point level, they will earn a reward. This safety program will be reviewed after a year.
The IPRF (Illinois Public Risk Fund) grant in the amount of $1,300 will be used for training videos. We will be ordering additional safety training videos for the monthly training. The KRMA staff will be trained in fork lift training and tornado/ inclement weather topics in the upcoming months.
