KRMA’S DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

During December, Joliet Boiler and Welding Co. repaired the generator heat exchanger. The work consisted of disassembling the heat exchanger and identifying the leaks and making welding repairs or replacing the bad tubes. The bundle was then re-installed with new gaskets and the system was checked for leaks.

Also in December, Digester #3 was re-seeded with sludge from a wastewater treatment facility in Frankfort. Sludge from another source is occasionally introduced to the KRMA system to assist with sludge analysis.

KRMA also received notice that the Illinois Public Risk Fund (IPRF) has reserved a grant in the amount of $2,300 for KRMA to use for safety and educational programs. The IPRF requires information on how KRMA will utilize this grant by March 14, 2008. A $700 grant was received in 2006 and $1,300 in 2007. Gas detector equipment and safety training videos were purchased with the grants.
