KRMA’S SEPTEMBER HIGHLIGHTS
Strand Associates is working on the design for the replacement plan for the SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. The SCADA system will be based on a current programmable logic controller (PLC) technology with a computer based operator interface located at Administration Building 10.
A copy of the signed Agreement for the Corrective Action Plan documented by Strand Associates to satisfy the IEPA Violation Notice W-2007-00205 has been sent to the IEPA. We are in receipt of the delivery confirmation notice indicating that the IEPA received the documents by the September 24, 2007, deadline. In addition, Strand Associates will also be investigating and recommending improvements for the existing service entrance switchgear.
Triple R Equipment completed the recondition of the #4 final clarifier drive. This work included rebuilding the drive assembly, abrasive blasting and re-coating the drive assembly and bridge, and replacing the skimmer assembly with an updated more efficient stainless steel skimmer assembly.
Clever Monkey Media and Art Strother continue to develop the training DVD’s. The area that they are concentrating on at this time is the aeration bays.
Synagro worked on removing the remaining liquid sludge from the storage tanks during September. Two more tanks have been emptied which will allow KRMA staff to clean the remaining grit and sludge from the tank bottoms.
The performance appraisal and development evaluation system developed by the KRMA management staff was adopted by the KRMA Board at the September board meeting. The first evaluation period will be from October 1, 2007, through December 31, 2007; and then on a quarterly basis.
During September, operations and maintenance staff completed 298 scheduled /preventative maintenance work orders and 62 repair orders. At the end of September there were 127 open work orders. There are approximately 122 open work orders at this time.
INFLUENT FLOW
Table 2.1 summarizes total flow and average daily flow to the facility from each municipality.
ODOR ISSUES
There were no odor complaints during September.
EFFLUENT QUALITY
Table 3.1 summarizes the effluent quality data.
SAFETY
Chlorine safety training was held on Friday, September 14, 2007. Harris & Ford, the current chlorine vendor, presented the training seminar.
The monthly safety training was on eye safety and was held on September 27, 2007.
PERSONNEL
On September 28, 2007, a training session was held for the KRMA staff on the new performance appraisal and development evaluation system. As part of the new appraisal system, the KRMA staff will be tracking their work orders on a time distribution sheet. This will enable better utilization of work time and work order processing.

SLUDGE HANDLING
The total amount of sludge at the end of September was approximately 100,000 gallons.
