KRMA’S MAY HIGHLIGHTS
In May, KRMA’s Instrument Specialist, Shaun Ownbey, installed the effluent metering system. Shaun completed the programming and calibrations to start up the system on May 24, 2007. Reports are generated weekly to monitor the effluent flow.
The major overhaul on Generator #1 has been completed. The extensive work included rebuilding the engine to manufacturer specifications and any product upgrades as needed. A new crankshaft was also installed. The generator is back on line at this time.
Synagro began removing liquid sludge this month. During the month of May, they removed over 1,070,000 gallons of liquid sludge.
KRMA was awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000 from the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation. This grant will be used for energy efficiency upgrades to the water treatment system. A SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system will be de developed for the aeration system. Since the grant must be used during the period of May 1, 2007 through April 20, 2008, the project will require a tight twelve month timeline.
The Asset Management project is continuing and Clever Monkey Media has been working on operational training videos for the various plant areas and the new equipment.
Alex Hunter, Jason Johnson, Christopher Thompson, and Bob Delmore began their summer internship at KRMA this month. They are concentrating on lawn care services for KRMA. The interns may also do housekeeping and painting projects.
During May, operations and maintenance staff completed 310 scheduled /preventative maintenance work orders and 125 repair orders. At the end of May there were 198 open work orders. There are approximately 118 open work orders at this time.
INFLUENT FLOW
Table 2.1 summarizes total flow and average daily flow to the facility from each municipality.
ODOR ISSUES:
There were no odor complaints during May.
EFFLUENT QUALITY
Table 3.1 summarizes the effluent quality data.
SAFETY
No Safety Meeting was held in May.
PERSONNEL
Interviews for an Operator and a Maintenance Technician were conducted during the month of May.
Nicholas Scheppler was selected as the Operator and began work on May 29, 2007. Adrian Davis was selected as the Maintenance Technician and will begin work on June 18, 2007. Both individuals have excellent experience and will become assets to KRMA.
